TJ SWEATER: KNITTED COLLECTIBLE

Limited Edition Sweater

Overview

A custom-knit sweater created for GTC as a playful but premium collectible.

Role

Creative direction, design, overseeing production.

Inspired by the Ralph Lauren teddy bear sweaters.

Approach

When I started this project, it wasn’t enough to just make a sweater that depicted ‘TJ’ (Toy Jensen, the avatar used to represent agents by NVIDIA) it needed to feel like people looked for and wanted this 20 years from now.

AI was used for early concept exploration and then the team quickly moved into figuring out how to bring this to life. The first few round of samples weren’t quite hitting the mark. While somewhat ‘acceptable,’ when it comes to people’s likeness, acceptable is not an option.

I rolled up my sleeves and studied knit gauge, colors, proportions, and fit to create new artwork from scratch that would translate into production in order to hit our next critical event deadline.

Artwork designed specifically for how it would translate into knit in real life.

The sweater made it’s debut at GTC 26

Outcome

A instant classic and highly coveted item both inside and outside of NVIDIA. The item elevated expectations for gear at the company and created lots of buzz online and offline.
    • Drew crowds at GTC
    • Appeared in several major news publications
    • Sold for over double the retail price on eBay

The Wall Street Journal featured it as Silicon Valley’s must-have item a month after the conference.

The sweater was featured in various articles while the conference was in full-swing.
